For my much needed dose of Scandinavian design I always visited the store Emma b in the heart of the city center of Utrecht, my hometown. I love to walk through the city, have a coffee stop and get inspired by local stores and designers. I’ve been going to the store for years, it’s located on the beautiful historical Oudegracht 218. To see the new collection of mostly Danish brands like Hay, Muuto, Ferm Living and Menu.
The funny part is that I now get my dose of Nordic design almost every day because I work there. It perfectly fits my freelance work as a photographer and interest in Scandinavian lifestyle, design and interior. The store is also part of another lovely store in Utrecht called KECK&LISA, Emma b continues as KECK&LISA Wonen. The Scandinavian atmosphere remains the same, and we added some new brands: Frama, NORR11 and String Furniture.
Since I have worked at the store I have got to know the Finnish brand Marimekko and its ollection much better. Of course, I knew the brand already.. anybody who has a link with Scandinavia has at least one Marimekko item at home. Besides that it’s good design it’s also part of a lifestyle. Their collection is versatile. From tableware, fabrics to clothes and accessories. We are happy to have a big part of the beautiful tableware in store, also the new Terra collection made of beautiful matte brown ceramic. A personal favorite.
On the occasion of the new store name I did a photoshoot with some favorite brands: Marimekko and Ferm Living. Both the Frama Adam Stool and String Pocket as perfect models. It shows how different brands easily can be combined to create a whole new atmosphere. That’s what I like so much about Scandinavian design and all the brands we have at KECK&LISA Wonen. We are not only specialized in accessories, furniture and lighting. We also advice on interior design and styling. Hope to see you there!

For years I had the Vitra LTR side table on my mind. Since I have a mix of modern and classic designs at home. Its 50’s design would perfectly blend in. I also always wanted a Ray and Charles Eames design at home. Since I admire their work and way of thinking out of the box. The name LTR comes from the words Low Table Rod Base, which sums up well its structure and size.
The LTR - Low Table Rod - was designed by famous design duo Charles and Ray Eames in 1950. This small yet eye catching side table has a frame made of welded wire steel. I like the look and feel of this design. The frame gives it a architectural feeling, the wooden top with its round edges provides an elegant look. Both the frame and top are available in several colours and various finishes, like chrome or powder coating. I choose the black/black LTR table. A lovely detail is the raw wooden edge of the table top.
Although it is a small table, 39,2 by 3,5 and 25 centimeters high, it is very useful and versatile. Especially when you live in a small city apartment like me. When you need an extra table next to your sofa. Or simply use it to display some favorite home decorations, magazines or flowers and greens.
For me the LTR table was perfect for a narrow wall close to a window and next to a lounge chair. The function of the table can vary from day to day. Which I like a lot because I want to be able to make small changes at home. When you have more than one LTR it is even possible to stack them like shelves or group several tables.

For w/ Style we recently visited the yearly Dutch Design Week and the inspirational project space by bulthaup. For the occasion of DDW 2019 bulthaup furnished a space in the Strijp-S area in their well know signature style. They combined b Solitaire tables, made of solid oak, with long Solitaire benches and matching leather covers. This central meeting point was an inviting backdrop for the bulthaup Table Talks series. During this week different workshops, meetings and conversations took place.
We are familiar with the bulthaup accessories and b Solitaire collection, we previously photographed and styled these items for w/ Style. Yet it was nice to see it all in Eindhoven, we also had the pleasure to join bulthaup country manager Tore and Lucia of Good tea stories for a private tea session during the weekend.
We spent quite some time in this space due to the nice atmosphere and soft music. bulthaup wants to offer a platform for people to share their values, to make connections and to get in conversation with (food) designers, architects, developers, media and other creatives. Therefore they will stay at Strijp-S until March 2020 giving space to new creative ideas.
