A room within a room for nature. Designer duo Atelier 2+ have created a greenhouse that is small enough for indoor use but large enough to house a miniature garden. “Greenhouse is a product of our stay in Scandinavia.” When the designers were living in Sweden they felt the need to get closer to nature and to make room inside their dwelling for nature. “To create miniature worlds because it is not large enough for people merely to plant just anything in it. It makes demands on the user, perhaps requiring green fingers or the sensitive touch of a sculptor.”

The Greenhouse is a Stockholm Design House design object with artistic ambitions, a sculpture that makes room for nature and creativity. “Green plants are a neglected area which call for innovative design solutions: precisely what Greenhouse offers”. Atelier 2+ place greenery on a pedestal and project it with glass as the delicate and beautiful item that it deserves to be.

I live, work and cook in one room. And sometimes I change it into a photo studio. Of course, the greenhouse is made for.. greens :) yet I also like to use it as an additional storage space in the kitchen. I’m living small but cozy and with the most necessary stuff around me.

In Spring and Summer the greenhouse is filled with fresh herbs and small plants on the balcony of my city apartment. Now, in Winter times it serves as an extra small cabinet to storage kitchen accessories. The greenhouse in dark grey - close to black - perfectly matches the industrial metal black trolley. This way everything is movable and hand around the kitchen. 

This is the mini version, made from lacquered solid ash timber with panes of toughened glass and a planting tray made of galvanized metal.

The year 2018 could not have had a better start.. Last week we (yes we.. !) took a bumpy flight to Copenhagen and an adventurous ride to Sweden for w/ Style, our brand new company. On invitation of Danish kitchen manufacturer Vipp we had the chance to visit both the loft and their amazing shelter. 

Though my main focus is photography, I am also working as a (photo) stylist, visual storyteller, blogger and I teach photography for more than ten years now. I had the opportunity to work with beautiful interior and design brands and attended several inspiring events. 

During one of those events I met Desiree Groenendal. Blogger, interior stylist and the creative talent behind of the award winning blog Vosgesparis. After annual trips to Milan Design week, countless cups of coffee and collaborations on different projects, we decided to work together under the name w/ Style. Our photography, styling and concept agency focuses on travel, branding, lifestyle and interior. 

I love to work with Desiree: to strengthen each other, to inspire, learn and grow. And not to forget: it is so much fun to team up together! Although we both have our unique style, we share an interest in minimalism and interior design. Collaborating brings out the best in both of us, the results of which can be seen in this new project and our exciting plans for 2018.

November was mainly about building. Like this brand new website for my company beeldSTEIL, starting a new and second company (more about this coming up soon!) and personal development. Meanwhile, I tried to keep my city apartment inspiring and cosy. Because November also means short and grey days..

For years I had the wish to combine beeldSTEIL blog with my photography portfolio and focus more on my work as a photographer and visual concepts. As most of you know, new things take time and a website/blog will always be in progress.. yet very happy with the result so far.

Greens, art, candles and music are the main ingredients for Autumn days working from home. And since December I also have a new flex working space in my hometown for 1 day a week (also more coming up ;) which I am very excited about. A great extension to find the right balance in working from home, shooting on location and to be part of a creative working environment with mind-liked freelancers and entrepreneurs.

Whether working from home, a fancy coffee bar or flex space.. a beautiful surrounding feels good, inspires and increases my focus. Wish you a great (working) day!

We were lucky to have some beautiful after summer days this month. It was a mediocre summer so we all longed for a few bright days before Autumn. Now the mornings and evenings are becoming chilly. But despite the changeable weather, Autumn is a favourite season.  

The light has something special, which is good for photography. I love to run in the coloured woods, trying to catch every sunbeam. And after a stormy day, it’s always a pleasure to come home, have a drink and a warm blanket with some good reading material within reach. Both indoors and outdoors on the small balcony of my city apartment I enjoy fall.  

My favourite covering is the Cross Blanket. A well-known design by Pia Wallen. A small Swedish family business that produces fine organic cotton in Peru in the traditional way. The characteristic Cross design was introduced by Wallen in the early nineties. The cross dessin has its roots in the Swedish folk art tradition as a symbol of hope. The cross played a major role in the designs of Pia Wallen. I like the design because of its simplicity and the repetition in the pattern.

Also, I love the size, the blanket comes in a mini and big version. The biggest one is probably intended for a double bed. But I like to wrap it around me when having my first coffee in the morning. Besides the size, I fell for the softness of the fabric. The Cross blanket is made of 100% bio cotton.  Even after washing it is still soft and very comfortable. And last but not least: design matters. The iconic cross is minimal and fits my interior very well. Both the black/white and the grey/white version (I must admit I have them both..). More colours available are red-orange, camel and midnight blue.
